SewGreen's "Rescued for Reuse" store carries fabric, yarn, sewing machines and more - all donated by members of the community. Proceeds support SewGreen's youth programs and classroom actvities.
DONATIONS of fabric, sewing machines etc may be brought to the store any time we are open. Please review the donation guidelines! Thank you.

Kids learn machine and hand sewing skills in an atmosphere of fun and creativity.

VOLUNTEER WITH US
Opportunities for volunteers include joining our teaching team, working with kids and teens, helping to refurbish classic sewing machines, sewing projects for charity or resale, working in our new store, or helping sort donated fabric and sewing stuff. Training is provided. Contact us for more information.

First kids' project - patchwork pillows! |
Classes are held in the SewGreen classroom at the Women's Community Building* in downtown Ithaca. All supplies and equipment are provided. Classes are open to everyone: boys and girls, men and women of all ages, cultures, languages, skill levels, etc. Sliding fee scale. Scholarships for youth are available.
Pre-registration is required for all classes. Send us an email with your contact info and the class(es) you want to attend.
Current Class Schedule:
Fix & Stitch
2-4 pm, Saturday Jan 16
Bring in your older sewing machine and learn to clean, oil, and troubleshoot it for optimum performance. Use our tools and materials. For adults and teens; 12 and under with a parent. Repeated Feb 20. $15.
Kids' Creative Sew
3-4:30 pm, Friday Jan 22 through Feb 26
For children 8 to 12 who have attended at least one SewGreen beginning sewing class, this after-school series will feature new projects and skill-builders in a creative environment. Space is limited so sign up now! This series will be repeated twice this Winter/Spring. Ask about exact dates. $90 for six week series.
Beginning Sewing for Kids
10 am-noon, Saturday Jan 23 through Feb 6
For children 8 to 12 who want to learn to use a sewing machine. Close personal attention in a small class leads to independence in sewing and creating projects. The series will be repeated twice more this Winter/Spring. $60 for three-week series.
Beginning Sewing I
6-8 pm, Tuesday Jan 26
Learn to use a sewing machine and make a drawstring backpack. For adults and teens. Repeated Feb 9 and 23. $15 or $25 for both Beginning I and II.
Beginning Sewing II
6-8 pm, Thursday Jan 28
Learn next steps in sewing with a machine and make a bib apron. For adults and teens. Repeated Feb 11 and 25. $15 or $25 for both Beginning I and II.
Beginning Sewing III
6-8 pm, Wednesday, Feb 17
Learn to put in a zipper and make a lining as you create a small purse/cargo bag. For adults and teens. Beginning I and II or equivalent experience needed. Repeated March 17. $15.
Sewing Clinic, 1-4 pm
Saturday Feb 13
Bring unfinished projects, apparel you want to refashion, ideas you want to make real. Our experienced sewers will help you accomplish your goals. Basic sewing knowledge is required. Bring your own machine or use ours. Repeated Feb 27 and March 13. $15.
Miniature Sewing Room
1-4 pm, Saturday March 20
Join artisan Richard Tabor in making a miniature sewing room with an embroidery hoop as the base. We'll have lots of materials and tools, and you can bring your own miniature items, too. See below for a picture of Richard's "Scene in a Hoop" that will be the model for the room. For adults and teens, 12 and under with a parent. $20.

Teens at SewGreen
YOUTH APPRENTICESHIPS & JOBS Teenagers with an interest in sewing and fashion design are invited to apply for SewGreen youth apprenticeships. Apprenticeship sessions will be held at SewGreen Tuesday and Thursday of each week, 4 to 5:30 pm.
Apprenticeship training is free, in exchange for occasional volunteer service. Apprentices will learn all about sewing, refashioning, and apparel construction, and may explore fashion illustration, pattern-making, and draping as tools for original design. Leadership, inclusion, and workplace skills are an integral part of the program. Teens may also train for after-school or weekend jobs at SewGreen. PDF welcome letter and application.
